Subject: Textile Physics-1(Code TE- 207)

Time : 2 Hours

Marks : 40

Answer any 4 (four) questions.

1. (a) Define stress and specific stress. show the relation between them.

(b) What is work of rupture? Show how durability of a textile fiber increases for its high work of rupture.

(c) Compare the mechanical properties of two fibers (A and B) having work factor value 0.75 and 0.45 respectively.

3+5+2 =10

2. (a) What is meant by orientation of polymer chain?

(b) How can you investigate the fibre structure? Describe the FTIR method.

(c) Compare the x-ray diffraction method and infrared absorption method for investigation of fibre structure.

2+5+3 =10

3. (a) What is glass transition temperature and melting temperature? “The glass transition temperature of nylon is C and polyethylene is C” - why?

(b) Define differential heat of sorption and integral heat of sorption. State the physiological advantages of higher heat of wetting of wool fiber.

(c) Show the mechanism of heat setting of thermoplastic fiber.

4+3+3 =10
