Part: A
(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) State and prove Bernoulli’s theorem for a liquid along a stream line.

(b) Applying Bernoulli’s theorem show that, exhaust velocity of liquid is √(2gh).

(c) What is venturimeter? How do the rates of liquid flow can be measured by this?

2. (a) Define elasticity with examples.

(b) Show that the work done per unit volume in straining a body is equal to 1/2(stress × strain).

(c) Find the work done in stretching a wire of 1 sq mm cross section and 2 m long through 0.1 mm. [Y= 2×10¹¹ N/m²].

3. (a) Define viscosity and critical velocity.

(b) Derive Poiseuille’s equation for the rate of flow of a viscous liquid through a capillary tube.

(c) Explain Newton’s law of viscous flow and co-efficient of viscosity.
