Physics-I exam (PHY 101) from BUTEX affiliated colleges' 2020 Level-1 Term-I finals. Questions address work done in straining wires, rate of flow through pipes, Torricelli's theorem, flywheel angular momentum, and interference fringe spacing with Newton's rings.
Level-1 Term-I, Final Exám-2020
Subject: Physics-I (Code: PHY 101)
Time: 3.0 Hrs. Full Marks: 72
(Use separate answer script for Part: A and Part: B)
(All parts of a question must be answered consecutively)
Part: A
(Answer any three questions)
1. (a) What is Poisson’s ratio?
(b) State and explain Hooke’s law of elasticity.
(c) Show that in any type of strain work done per unit volume is equal to 1/2 × stress × strain.
(d) Find out the work done in stretching a wire of 1mm² cross section and 2m long through 0.1mm. (Y = 2 × 10¹¹Nm⁻²).
[1+2+6+3=12]
2. (a) Define critical velocity.
(b) Explain rate of flow. Prove that, through greater cross-sectional area liquids flow slowly.
(c) Water flows through a horizontal pipeline of varying cross-section at the rate of 0.2m³/s. Calculate the velocity of water at a point where the area of cross-section of the pipe is 0.02m².
