Subject:
Physics-I (Code: PHY 101)
Time: 3.0 Hrs. Full Marks: 72
(Use separate answer script for Part: A and Part: B)

(All parts of a question must be answered consecutively)

Part: A
(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) What is uniform motion?

(b) Derive an expression for the rate of flow of a liquid through a pipe line.

(c) Discuss the necessary corrections for poiseuille’s equation.

(d) Water flows through a horizontal capillary tube of 1mm internal diameter and length 70cm under pressure of a column of water 30cm in height. Find the rate of flow of water through the capillery tube. Viscosity of water is 10⁻³ N-s/m².

[1+2+6+3=12]

2. (a) What is meant by elastic fatigue?

(b) State and explain Hooke’s law of elasticity.

(c) Show that in any type of strain work done per unit volume is equal to 1/2 × stress × strain.

(d) The modulus of rigidity and poission’s ratio of the material of a wire are 2.87×10¹⁰ Nm⁻² and 0.379 respectively. Find the value of Young’s modulus of material of the wire.

[1+2+6+3=12]

3. (a) State and prove the theorem of parallel axis in moment of inertia.
