(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) What is streamline motion?

(b) State equation of continuity.

(c) Explain Bernoulli’s theorem.

(d) Water flows through a horizontal pipe line of varying cross-section at the rate of 0.2 m³/s. Calculate the velocity of water at a point, where the area of cross section of the pipe is 0.02 m².

2. (a) Define coefficient of viscosity and velocity gradient.

(b) Describe the determination of coefficient of viscosity of a liquid by the capillary flow method.

(c) A metal plate of area 10⁻²m² rests on a layer of castor oil 2×10⁻³m thick, whose coefficient of viscosity is 1.55 N-s/m². Calculate the horizontal force required to move the plate with a uniform speed of m/s.

3. (a) What is cohesive force?

(b) Derive an expression for the pressure in a cylindrical soap bubble.

(c) State and prove the theorem of perpendicular axis in moment of inertia.
