(Use separate answer script for Part: A and Part: B)

(All parts of a question must be answered consecutively)

Part: A
(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) Define- angle of contact.

(b) Explain equation of continuity and find its differential form.

(c) State and prove Torricelli's theorem.

(d) Water flows through a horizontal pipe line of which the cross-section is not constant. The pressure is 1cm of Hg where the velocity is 35 cm/sec. Find the pressure at a point where the velocity is 65 cm/sec. Density of water = .

[1+7+6+3.5=17.5]

2. (a) Obtain an expression for determination of viscosity of a liquid by poisullis method.

(b) Derive an expression for the excess pressure inside a curved film.

(c) Define- surface tension. A capillary tube having diameter of and height of water is 0.04m. Calculate the surface tension of water. Density of water = .

[7+6+4.5=17.5]

3. (a) Define: (i) Breaking weight (ii) Stress.

(b) Show that the simple shear is equivalent to a compression and an extension at right angles to each other, each of value .

(c) What is elastic modulus? State the various types of elastic modulus.
