1. ⁢(a) Define Computer. Describe different components of a computer system.

(b) Draw a block diagram to illustrate the basic organization of a computer system and explain the function of the various units.

(c) Classify computer system on the basis of capacity.

(d) What are the difference between RAM and ROM?

2. (a) What is the value of the base for decimal, hexadecimal, binary and octal number system? Carry out the following conversions:

i. 110.110₂ = ?₁₀

ii. 127.54₈ = ?₁₀

(b) State and prove the two basic De Morgan’s theorem.

(c) Why NAND and NOR gates called universal gates? Show the logic circuit diagram for the following Boolean expression:

(d) Construct basic circuit diagram for a half-adder by using only NOR gate.

1. ⁢(a) What is computer programming? Write the name of factors those are considered in a problem analysis checklist.

(b) What is the difference between an algorithm and a flowchart? Illustrate with an example.

(c) Why proper documentation of a program is necessary? What are program bugs? What is debugging?

(d) Do you consider C is a powerful, flexible, portable and elegantly structured programming language? Justify your answer in five points.

2. (a) What is a variable? How can declare variables for different types of data in the program?

(b) Header files contains information used by the standard library functions. How do you tell the compiler to include one in your program? Give an example.

(c) Enter three values (integer) separated by space and show the largest value using “c” program.

“C programs the smallest individual units are known as C tokens” if so explain it.

(b) Describe the four basic data types. How could we extend the range of values they represent?
