2023BUTEX-AC

Two Automation & Control Engineering papers (IPE 301) from the 2023 Level-3 Term-I finals, BUTEX affiliated colleges. Includes degree of freedom derivations, robotics in textiles, pneumatic systems, kinematic pairs, robot configurations, and cubic trajectory motion problems.

Q1

BANGLADESH UNIVERSITY OF TEXTILES

B. Sc. in Textile Engineering (For Affiliated Colleges)

Level-3 Term-I, Final Exám-2023
Subject:
Automation & Control Engineering (Code: IPE 301)
Time: 3.0 Hrs. Full Marks: 72
(Use separate answer script for Part: A and Part: B)

(All parts of a question must be answered consecutively)

Part: A
(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) Define degree of freedom. Derive degree of freedom for a three-dimensional body.

(b) Define robotics. Illustrate the significance role of robotics in the textile industry.

(c) Derive the working principle of pneumatic drives with a block diagram.

[(1+3)+(1+3)+4 = 12]

2. (a) Illustrate the online programming methods used in robotics.

(b) Define kinematic pair. Differentiate between lower pair and higher pair.

(c) Define robot envelope. Explain RRP, RLP and RRR robot configurations systems with joints and links.

[3+4+(2)+(5)=12]

3. (a) Define actuator. Difference between hydraulic and pneumatic actuator.

(b) Explain the working principle of pneumatic power system with neat sketch.

(c) A single link robot with a rotary joint is motionless at θ = 15 degrees. It is desired to move the joint in a smooth manner to θ = 75 degrees in 3 seconds. Find the coefficients of a cubic which accomplishes this motion and brings the manipulator to rest at the goal. Find the position of the joint as a function of time.

[3+4+5 = 12]

(All parts of a question must be answered consecutively)

Part: A
(Answer any three questions)

1. ⁢(a) Briefly discuss the present and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in RMG sector of Bangladesh.

(b) Define and classify robot joint. Explain different types robot joints with neat sketch.

(c) A robot arm has 5 number of links and frames which are connected to each other by 4 lower pairs and 2 higher pairs. Find the total degrees of freedom (DoF) of the robot arm using Greubler’s equation.

[4+5+3 = 12]

2. (a) Differentiate between robot and robotics.

(b) Explain the key components of the robot with a block diagram.

(c) Define dead zone. Which type of robot configuration has no dead zone within the work envelope, explain with necessary diagrams.

[2+5+(1+4) = 12]

3. (a) Define gripper and arm of tooling. What are factors that considered while designing a robot gripper.

(b) What is actuator? Briefly discuss the functions of basic component of hydraulic actuation system.
